JEE Dropper Batch Cost: ₹64,000 Online, ₹2.8 Lakh at Motion Kota
A JEE dropper batch costs about ₹64,000 for a full-year online course. A Motion Education Kota example reaches ₹2.8 lakh to ₹3.1 lakh with GST and hostel, as of October 2026.
Updated 9 Oct 2026

Key takeaways
- A JEE dropper batch costs ₹63,999.99 to ₹84,755 for a full-year live online course on the providers' own pages. Our model for one Kota example, Motion Education with its own Daksh hostel, comes to ₹2,77,300 to ₹3,12,700, which is 3.7 to 4.9 times the Physics Wallah (PW) online fee.
- Drop only if your gap is fixable and you still have a JEE Advanced attempt. Advanced allows two attempts in two consecutive years, so a drop year after sitting it in Class 12 leaves exactly one.
- A 2026 Class 12 leaver can still join a running batch, such as PW Prayas JEE 3.0, if the provider shows how a late joiner catches up. A current Class 12 student should compare JEE 2028 batches once they are listed in spring 2027.
- Before paying, get the final fee including GST, the non-refundable part, the refund terms, the access end date and the result-claim figures in writing.

Kota's real cost sits mostly in rent, food and tax, not tuition. Motion Education's own Daksh hostel page prices a 12-month room at ₹1,18,000 to ₹1,53,400, as large as the tuition itself at the Kota batches priced below.
A JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) dropper batch, also called a repeater batch, is a one-year course for students who have finished Class 12 and are preparing for JEE again. The fee on the poster is rarely the fee paid. GST (Goods and Services Tax), a non-refundable kit fee, an access end date and different start dates on two pages of one provider all change what the year costs.
Parents add a harder question: whether a drop year is worth it at all for a student who has already spent a year on JEE. That depends on how many JEE Advanced attempts the student still holds, and on whether the refund terms let you leave if the year is not working.
What does a JEE dropper batch cost in India, online and in Kota?
Full-year live online batches list ₹63,999.99 to ₹84,755 on their providers' own pages, as of October 2026. The two Kota classroom batches below list tuition from ₹60,000 (Resonance, GST included) to ₹1,59,300 (Motion, ₹1,35,000 plus 18% GST).
JEE has two stages. JEE Main is the first-stage exam, run by the National Testing Agency (NTA). JEE Advanced is the second-stage exam for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
| Batch | Mode | Listed fee |
|---|---|---|
| Online | ₹64,000, with ₹5,000 registration and 2 instalments | |
| Online | ₹63,999.99 | |
| Online | ₹84,755 | |
| Kota classroom | ₹1,35,000 plus 18% GST (₹15,000 admission and kit, ₹1,20,000 tuition) | |
| Kota classroom | ₹60,000 including GST for October 2026 admission |
Resonance's fee depends on the enrolment month: ₹55,000 for September 2026, rising ₹5,000 a month to ₹90,000 from April 2027. The two PW pages also list monthly EMI (equated monthly instalment) options of about ₹3,847 and ₹4,205, which spread the same fee over months and do not reduce it. Apart from Resonance, these are 2026-27 intake fees and will change. Our JEE coaching fees in India guide shows why no price is typical.
How much does a drop year really cost once Kota living costs are added?
One Kota example, Motion Education with a room in its own Daksh hostel, costs ₹2,77,300 to ₹3,12,700 for the year in our model, against ₹64,000 to ₹75,520 for the PW online batch. The working is ours, not an official figure, and it covers one institute, so other Kota batches will differ.

Inputs.
- Motion's fee: ₹1,35,000 × 1.18 = ₹1,59,300.
- Motion's Daksh hostel 12-month room, meals included: ₹1,18,000 (double cooler) to ₹1,53,400 (single AC). The page does not say whether GST is included.
- Our assumption: one year in that hostel, tuition and room only.
| Route | Working | Year total |
|---|---|---|
| PW Prayas Power, at home | ₹64,000; × 1.18 = ₹75,520 if GST is extra | ₹64,000 to ₹75,520 |
| Vedantu Full Year, at home | ₹84,755; × 1.18 = ₹1,00,011 if GST is extra | ₹84,755 to ₹1,00,011 |
| Motion, Kota, Daksh hostel | ₹1,59,300 + ₹1,18,000 to ₹1,53,400 | ₹2,77,300 to ₹3,12,700 |
If the hostel prices exclude 18% GST, the total is ₹1,59,300 + ₹1,39,240 = ₹2,98,540 to ₹1,59,300 + ₹1,81,012 = ₹3,40,312.
The low end is ₹2,77,300 ÷ ₹75,520 = 3.7 times the PW fee with GST, and the high end is ₹3,12,700 ÷ ₹64,000 = 4.9 times the PW fee without it. Not counted: Motion's ₹10,000 hostel security amount, electricity by meter reading, travel, pocket money and test fees; our online vs offline coaching cost calculator adds travel and stay. Motion's fee page states that the ₹15,000 admission and kit fee is non-refundable, so leaving after a month still costs that amount.
Our recommendation: pay the Kota premium only if you could not keep a timetable at home without anyone checking. Kota buys supervision and peers, not better lectures.
Should you take a JEE drop year, and how many attempts do you have left?
Take a drop year only if your shortfall is fixable and you still hold a JEE Advanced attempt. As of October 2026, Criterion A3 of the JEE Advanced information brochure states that a candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) at most two times in two consecutive years. Criterion A4 ties eligibility to the year you first appeared for Class 12, which was 2025 or 2026 for the 2026 exam.
So if you sat Advanced in your Class 12 year, a drop year gives you exactly one more attempt, and skipping a year before the second attempt costs you that attempt. JEE Main allows three Class 12 years: section 3.3 of the NTA's JEE Main 2026 bulletin admitted candidates who passed Class 12 in 2024 or 2025 or were appearing in 2026, with two sessions a year.
| Your situation | What we would do |
|---|---|
| Close to your target rank, with mistakes in specific chapters or in the exam hall | Drop. A structured batch plus weekly full-length tests addresses exactly this. |
| Class 12 year disrupted (illness, board pressure) but your base is sound | Drop. Judge by the rank you were reaching in tests before the disruption. |
| Basic Physics or Maths concepts unclear | Rebuild fundamentals first, and plan a fallback admission route alongside the drop. |
| Both Advanced attempts used | The Advanced route is closed. A drop year can only help a JEE Main-based route. |
Is it too late to join a JEE repeater batch in the middle of the year?
It depends on the year you finished Class 12. A 2026 leaver can still join a running batch for JEE 2027 if the provider shows how a late joiner catches up, and a current Class 12 student should plan for the JEE 2028 intake.

If you passed Class 12 in 2026. PW's batch list shows Prayas JEE 3.0 2027 starting on 27 July 2026 and running to 30 June 2027. A student joining on 9 October 2026 enters about ten weeks in (74 days). The NTA examination calendar proposes JEE Main Session 1 on 22 to 24 and 28 to 30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer and the dates marked tentative. That leaves about 15 weeks (105 days from 9 October to 22 January). Ask the provider in writing which recordings cover the weeks you missed and when your first test falls.
If you are in Class 12 now. Your drop batch is a JEE 2028 batch, and providers list those in spring 2027. Resonance's Kota schedule for 2027-28 is already published and rises ₹5,000 for each month you wait, so in Kota the admission month is part of the price.
Compare start dates carefully. As of October 2026, PW's batch page shows 27 March 2026 for Prayas Power 2027, while its batch list shows 22 April 2026 for the same batch.
Why do cheap fees and big result claims mislead dropper students?
A sticker fee leaves out tax, non-refundable parts and the date your access ends, and a result claim without a batch size tells you nothing about your odds. Three gaps do most of the damage.
- Tax. Motion's ₹1,35,000 is before 18% GST, a ₹24,300 difference. Resonance's ₹60,000 includes GST. Ask whether an online fee does.
- Access that ends too early. PW's batch pages show access until 30 May 2027, while its batch list shows an end date of 30 June 2027 for the same batches, so ask which applies. JEE Advanced 2026 was held on 17 May 2026 (JEE Advanced site), and the organising IIT announces the 2027 date. If it falls in mid-May again, 30 May leaves about two weeks.
- Totals that blur live and recorded. "620+ live and recorded classes" on PW's batch list does not say how many you can attend live.
On refunds, as of October 2026, the Rajasthan Coaching Centres (Control and Regulation) Act, 2025 (Governor's assent 23 September 2025) requires in section 13(4) that a student who has paid in full and leaves mid-course is refunded the fee for the remaining period pro rata within ten days. If the student stays in the centre's hostel, hostel and mess fees are refunded the same way. Section 13(5) bars raising the fee mid-course. The Act comes into force on the date the state notifies in the Official Gazette (section 1(3)), so ask any Kota centre whether it is registered under it. Clause 8(iv) of the Ministry of Education's Guidelines for Regulation of Coaching Centre (January 2024) says the same. Both are written for coaching centres, so for an online batch rely on the provider's written terms. Checklist item 4 turns this into a question you can send, and our guide to checking a coaching refund policy covers the written terms.
What should you get in writing before paying for a dropper batch?
Get seven answers in writing before paying, each with a test you can run on the reply. Our guide to choosing a coaching institute with evidence checks covers the same habit for any exam.
| Ask the provider | Pass | Fail |
|---|---|---|
| 1. What is my batch start date, and where will the syllabus be that day? | A dated answer the provider confirms in writing, even if its pages differ | "Ongoing", or no written confirmation |
| 2. What is the final payable fee, including GST and any discount? | One rupee figure | "Plus taxes" with no amount, or a fee that changes after a test |
| 3. Which part of the fee is non-refundable? | A rupee amount named | "No refund" with no explanation |
| 4. What would I get back if I left in month 2, and in month 6, with hostel and mess counted if I stay in the centre's hostel? | A worked rupee example on pro-rata terms, paid within ten days (the Rajasthan Act's rule for Kota centres) | A refusal, "as per policy" with no policy, or no hostel and mess answer |
| 5. When does my access end? | At least 28 days after the JEE Advanced 2027 date (for a mid-May exam, mid-June 2027 or later, so 30 May 2027 fails and 30 June 2027 passes) | Earlier than that |
| 6. How many classes and tests are live, apart from recorded? | Separate live and recorded counts | One lumped total |
| 7. For your result claim, how many enrolled and how many qualified? | Year, batch, enrolled and qualified counts | A selections number with no base |
A message you can send as it stands:
I am considering the [batch name]. Please confirm in writing: my batch start date and syllabus position that day; the final fee including GST after any discount; the non-refundable amount; the refund if I leave after one month and after six, including hostel and mess; my access end date; the live classes and tests, counted apart from recorded; and, for your result claims, the numbers enrolled and qualified.
How do you shortlist JEE dropper batches on Online Coaching 4u?
You shortlist on Online Coaching 4u by browsing our IIT JEE listings by study mode, city and verification status, then sending an enquiry or callback request to the providers you choose. It costs students nothing, and we take no course payment. We publish this page, so you should know which providers are listed. Of the providers compared here, PW Vidyapeeth and Motion Education have Kota listings in our directory, Vedantu appears through its Vedantu Learning Centres (Muzaffarpur, Vijayawada and Warangal), and Resonance has listings in other cities but none in Kota.
- Start with the mode and city. Our Kota coaching listings cover the physical route, and the directory also filters pan-India online options.
- Read the profile and labels. Profiles can show courses, location, our ratings and a separate Google rating. Verified means the institute shared its details with us and we checked it exists on trusted online sources; it confirms listing details, not results. Promoted placements are labelled as promoted.
- Then run the checklist with each provider on your shortlist and confirm fees, batches and refund terms directly.
